Tracy Harrington continued her outstanding season with a county gold medal in the F45 category at the Halstead marathon. Her run of 3:40:30 was just outside her personal best on a tough hilly course. James Haskey-Jones completed his second marathon in a week, running a strong 3:16:29 which gave him a top 50 place and 7th in the M40 category. Craig Dawson made a great club marathon debut  in 3:29:53, with Stuart Meddeman also completing his first club marathon in 3:42:43.  Graeme Moon continued his improvement with a personal best of 3:49:15, over 9 minutes faster than his time on the much easier London course. Mark Lawes and Richard Lyles made encouraging debuts at the distance with Mark running 3:55:05 and Richard 4:02:02. Peter Bouldstridge was just behind in 4:03:01, with Lynn Baines, 4:39:09, and Andy Goodson, 4:56:46, completing the Tiptree line up.

The Colchester Charity 10K saw another superb performance by Paul Mingay who broke his previous best by 45 seconds, running 35:45 to claim 6th place and win the veteran’s category. Matt Davey finished in 45:08, with Marcos Morley making his debut at the distance in 49:24. Abigail Morgan ran a huge personal best of 51:27 taking 6 minutes off her previous mark. Simon Morgan finished in 51:30, with Dawn Shilling coming home in 63:36. Rose Haskey-Jones made her 10K debut in 66:04, with John McVelia also completing his first race over the distance in 66:04.

Anthony and Vicky Knight competed in the Tough Mudder, a 12 mile extreme race that featured 25 obstacles including a crawl through electric wires, jumps into rivers from a 15 feet high plank, barbed wire, walls, water, underwater tunnels and plenty of mud. They both completed the course in 2 hours 40 minutes, although Vicky had to go to hospital with bruising and muscle damage.

Ted Skinner posted his fastest Parkrun 5K of the series at Valentines Park, running 20:36 to earn a 75% age grading. The previous week, he completed the Kingston Parkrun 5K in 21:25.

Rob Hadgraft finished the Frinton & Walton 5 mile in 37:37, with Roger Duffield running 43:28 to take 1st V70. Ian Linton made a cautious return to racing after a six month absence, completing the undulating multi-terrain Alton Water 10K in 54:37. Karen Pearce made her club debut at the distance in 1:10:38.

The London Marathon saw a series of superb performances for Tiptree Road Runners. Sean Ketteridge in his club debut at the distance ran 2;47;34 to take a top 500 place and finish 82nd in the V40 category. Vicky Knight improved her personal best by two and a half minutes, running 3;26;34 to clinch a top 500 place in the ladies race and set her third personal best of the month. Simon Morgan got over his recent injury problems to finish in 3;41:30.

Graeme Moon, running his second marathon, took more than 20 minutes off his previous mark as he broke the four hour barrier with a run of 3:58:37. Anthony Knight finished in 4;15;23. Chris King ran an even paced race to finish in 4;33;12 to set a new club record in the F50 category. Alison Youles exceeded her target of breaking the 5 hour barrier by taking 14 minutes off her previous mark with a run of 4:53.

Marcos Morley showed great powers of recovery to complete his second marathon of the week in 4:57, following his run at the Brighton Marathon. Carolyn Bownes completed her first marathon with a steady run of 5:10:04.

By ROB HADGRAFT
Foreword by Dave Bedford
