Weekend results 16 October
Sunday’s Wix 5 was run in almost perfect conditions, encouraging six Tiptree Road Runners to set personal bests. Paul Mingay set the pace at the front with a personal best of 28:10 to take 13th place overall and 3rd V50. Craig Dawson made his club debut at the distance in 31:09, while Jamie Fairfull also improved his previous best with a run of 32:59. Phill Clarke finished in 33:09 followed by Simon Morgan in 33:48 and Graeme Moon in 34:58. Mark Lawes (35:26) improved his personal bests, just ahead of Martin Avent in 35:36.
Jim Slater ran 37:49 followed by Rob Hadgraft in 37:55 and Ian Linton in 38:17. Gerry Dolden made his club 5 mile debut in 40:15, while Abigail Morgan ran a very encouraging 41:42 in her 5 mile debut and took first place in the 15-17 girls category. Tina Clarke and Carolyn Bownes rounded off a busy weekend finishing in 42:19. Wendy Smalley improved her personal best by two minutes in 44:52, while Amy Smith took more than 5 minutes off her previous best with a run of 52:54. Dawn Shilling continued her comeback from a serious back problem with a time of 52:57.
At the Cabbage Patch 10 mile race on the banks of the Thames, Vicky and Anthony Knight showed great powers of recovery from their run in the Chicago Marathon the previous week as Vicky set a personal best of 1:14:44 and Anthony finished just outside his best time with a run of 1:20:56.
Roger Duffield completed a weekend double and clocked up his 1500th road race at the Felsted 5 mile event where he finished in 44:56 and 1st V70. On Saturday, he finished the Harwich Discovery 5K in 26:40 taking 1st place in the V70 category.
Four Tiptree Road Runners took part in the Fingringhoe 13 mile trail race. Paul Dellar was first home for the club in 1:46 followed by Tracy Harrington in 1:56, Carolyn Bownes and Tina Clarke finished in 2:36:06.
